Zero-Discharge Wash Water
Recycling For Metal Pretreatment

CPR Systems' closed-loop recycling captures pretreatment wash water, filters it to 20 microns and returns it to the washer, so nothing goes to drain. Because the chemistry is recycled along with the water, shops cut both water and chemical use by more than 80%.

Phosphate Or
Zirconium Chemistry

PhosBite phosphate and Zr Green zirconium both run in recycled water.

The Process:
  • Wash water is captured in the booth's containment system.

  • A multi-step filtration process removes solids and oils down to 20 microns.

  • Clean water and chemistry return to the washer for reuse.

What Can You Save?

Discharge to drain: ongoing with traditional pretreatment, none with CPR closed loop.

Water and chemistry use: 80%+ less than a traditional baseline.

Wastewater permit exposure: reduced.

Does Recycling Work With Phosphate And Zirconium?

Yes. Both PhosBite phosphate and Zr Green zirconium chemistries run in recycled water, and ESeal 480 is recycle-compatible. See zirconium pretreatment and iron phosphate pretreatment.

Can I Add Recycling To My Existing Washer?

Often, yes. If you have a hot water washer in good condition that can be dedicated to the new pretreatment operation, we can incorporate it with our recycling equipment, chemistry and process. Already have a hot water washer? Ask us whether it can be part of your zero-discharge system. CPR recycling also comes built into our spray wand and single-step stage washer systems.

Installation, Training, After Care

Our pretreatment packages include installation of equipment, training at your facility and after start-up remote support via our online maintenance tracking programs.

Wash Water Recycling FAQ

What does zero discharge mean?

No process wash water is sent to the sewer or storm drain; it is filtered and reused.

What happens to the solids and oil?

The filtration system collects them, and they're removed daily through a simple backwashing process. Managing the system takes less than 10 minutes before each shift.

How often is the water replaced?

It depends on your operation, the dirt load on your parts and how consistently staff backwash the system. We recommend changing the filtration media once a year, which is also a good time to drain and replace the system's wash water.

Is an RO rinse required?

No. Our recyclable cleaner-coater chemistries are built to be non-rinse. The 20-micron filtration process pulls suspended solids and oils out of the wash water while leaving the chemistry available for reuse. Some customers add a rinse to evenly distribute excess coating when they run the chemistry stronger than the technical data sheet (TDS) calls for, or when a spec or their customer requires one.
